DAUSA: Ahead of Rajasthan assembly election, Congress leader Sachin Pilot has confirmed that AICC Secretary General Priyanka Gandhi will be holding a meeting in Dausa today.
Sachin Pilot said there is excitement among party workers following Priyanka’s visit and asserted that the party will form the governments in all five poll- bound states.
“Tomorrow AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will hold a meeting in Dausa following the same there is excitement in the party workers for her arrival. The party workers and the public are waiting to receive the message of Priyanka Gandhi. This place has been a stronghold of the Congress…People have understood that Congress is a better option. Congress is going to win, be it Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh or Telangana,” Said Pilot on Thursday.
Earlier, on Wednesday, the Congress’s Central Election Committee (CEC) held a meeting to finalise candidates for the November 25 Assembly elections and those for the remaining seats in neighbouring Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.
The meeting was chaired by Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge at AICC headquarters in the national capital. CM Gehlot, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and other members of the party’s election panel and the screening committees of poll-bound states were also present in the meeting.
The counting of votes for the 200-seat Rajasthan Assembly, along with those for four other poll-bound states, has been scheduled for December 3.
Congress emerged as the largest single party in the 2018 Assembly polls, with 101 seats, and formed the government with the support of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
While the BJP has already put out its first list for the Rajasthan polls, which features as many as 7 sitting MPs, the Congress is yet to come out with its list of candidates.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission has announced that the first phase of polling for 20 seats in Chhattisgarh will be held on November 7, and the remaining 70 seats in Chhattisgarh will go to polls on November 17.
Polls will be held in Mizoram on November 7, Chhattisgarh on November 7 and November 17, Madhya Pradesh on November 17, Rajasthan on November 25 and Telangana on November 30.
The counting of votes will take place on December 3 in all the states. Of the five states, polling in Chhattisgarh will be held in two phases.
The Model Code of Conduct has come into force with the announcement of poll dates. The elections to five states are crucial as they are being held months before the Lok Sabha elections in April-May next year. (ANI)
