BENGALURU: The two popular lung spaces in the Garden City are Lalbagh and Cubbon Park. Now, the state government is planning to allocate 2.5 acres of land in Cubbon Park for a private art gallery.

The Cubbon Park Walkers’ Association has alleged that a survey has been conducted in the park to allot land for the art gallery. The association claimed that the survey was conducted on the Horticulture Department’s land following oral orders from the chief secretary.

The association has warned that they will take legal action if the government allots land for the construction of an art gallery. Umesh, president of the Cubbon Park Walkers’ Association, has warned the government that they will fight against any move to allocate land for the art gallery.

The association is concerned that the park area has already been reduced from 300 acres to 196 acres. The association fears that if the government continues to allocate land for construction, the park may disappear soon.

Umesh said that there have been no official orders out regarding this yet; if the government officially announces any such project here, the association would protest. “If the government gives the park land for construction, how will the park survive? As long as the association lives, no new building will be built in the park. If the government releases the documents, we will fight against this under the law”, he added.
