Priest dies after being knocked down by minors popping wheelies in Bangarpet

KOLAR: A temple priest died after he was knocked down by two minors who were popping wheelies on a two-wheeler near the bus stand on Vivekananda Road in Bangarpet on Wednesday night. The deceased is Gopal Rao (56), a priest at the Anjaneya Swami temple at Gandhinagar.

The youths, who were popping wheelies around 8.40 pm, crashed into Gopal. With severe injuries, he was rushed to a private hospital in Kolar where he died without responding to treatment.

“Gopal Rao was walking along the Bangarpet-Kolar road near Santhe Gate when the youths, who were speeding and riding recklessly, crashed into him from behind. Gopal Rao was first taken to the Bangarpet hospital and died while being taken to SNR Hospital. We are collecting all technical evidence and will continue our investigation”, said Kolar SP K M Shantaraju.

The Bangarpet police have seized the two-wheeler and registered a case. They are now on the lookout for the minors.
