Prices of flowers, ashgourd and fruits skyrocket ahead of Deepavali

BENGALURU: The Deepavali celebrations in the state have dealt a blow to people as the prices of vegetables, fruits and groceries are skyrocketing.

The prices of flowers such as Crossandra (Kanakambara) is as high as Rs 1,500 per kg, Arabian Jasmine (Dundu mallige) Rs 1,000 per kg, Kakada Rs 500 per kg, Jasmine Rs 200 per kg), Chrysanthemum Rs 150 per kg), Sugandhraj Rs 300 per kg), rose Rs 200 per kg) while Tulasi costs Rs 50 per bunch and mango leaves cost Rs 40 per bunch.

The price of ashgourd is Rs 150 per piece, making it the most expensive. The prices of the fruits like apple (Rs 120 per kg), orange (Rs 80 per kg), musambi (Rs 100 per kg), banana (Rs 80 per kg), pineapple (Rs 60 per kg), grapes (Rs 90-120 per kg) pomegranate (Rs 100 per kg) too have seen a sharp increase.

“The prices of vegetables, flowers, and fruits always spike during festivals. We cannot bargain much during this time. We have to buy things which are necessary for the festivities, “said Padmashree, who was busy with her festival shopping in K R Market area.
