President Murmu, PM Modi and other leaders pay tributes on B R Ambedkar’s birth anniversary

NEW DELHI: The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, on the eve of the birth anniversary of B R Ambedkar, extended her greetings to fellow citizens and paid tribute to the architect of the Indian Constitution.

In a message, the President has said, “On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Babasaheb Doctor Bhimrao Ambedkar, the Chief Architect of the Indian Constitution and the great social reformer, I pay my respectful homage to him.”

Describing Ambedkar as a jurist, economist, profound thinker, legal scholar and a strong advocate of an egalitarian social system, President Murmu highlighted his lifelong contribution to nation-building and social justice.

The President further added, “He dedicated his life to the upliftment of the deprived and vulnerable sections of society and made historic contributions in their favour. He not only showed the path to eliminate inequalities but also played a leading role in strengthening India’s democratic values and constitutional rights. Ambedkar prioritised women’s education and their rights. His multifaceted contributions will continue to inspire future generations to play an active role in the service and development of the country.”

“On this occasion, let us pledge to imbibe the ideals of Babasaheb Ambedkar in our lives and contribute towards building a just, inclusive and progressive nation,” she said.

Vice President CP Radhakrishnan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday paid tribute to Bharat Ratna Dr BR Ambedkar at Prerna Sthal in the parliament premises on the occasion of 135th Ambedkar Jayanti.

Alongside Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiran Rijiju, and Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge and other leaders also paid tribute to Babasaheb.

During the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge shared a light-hearted moment.

Sharing an X post, PM Modi said that his efforts towards nation-building are “deeply motivating”. “Tributes to Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar on his birth anniversary. His efforts towards nation-building are deeply motivating. His life and work continue to inspire generations to build a just and progressive society”, PM Modi wrote.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, on the occasion of the 135th birth anniversary of B R Ambedkar, extended his heartfelt wishes through a message while remembering his remarkable contribution to India.

In the message, Birla said, “The life of Babasaheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar is an epic saga of great struggle and courage. Despite adverse circumstances, he scaled numerous heights and, through his indomitable courage, hard work, and the power of education, not only established himself but also became a new ray of hope for millions of deprived and oppressed people.”

Remembering the values of equality, liberty, justice, and fraternity, which were the guiding principles of Babasaheb B R Ambedkar, Birla said that by incorporating these ideals into the Indian Constitution, he provided the nation with a strong direction.

The Lok Sabha Speaker further added, “Babasaheb is that unique gem of our nation whose life and works have influenced generations before and after Independence and have become an unending source of inspiration.”

Describing Ambedkar’s contribution as the Chairman of the Drafting Committee of the Constituent Assembly, Birla underscored that B. R. Ambedkar presented the country with a visionary document that remains the strong foundation of democracy even today and protects the rights of every citizen.

While talking about his life, he said that the life of B R Ambedkar teaches us that positive change in society is possible through education, awareness, and organised efforts. Today, as we move forward toward building a developed and inclusive India, Babasaheb’s thoughts become even more relevant.

Birla ended his note by saying, “His struggle and philosophy inspire us to stand against injustice, inequality, and discrimination. Dr. Ambedkar’s inspiring life and ideals will forever continue to guide us in building a just, harmonious, and strong India.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday paid tributes to BR Ambedkar on his 135th birth anniversary, remembering his role in shaping India’s Constitution and championing social justice.

In a post on X, Amit Shah highlighted Ambedkar’s contribution to democracy and national unity, stating, “Babasahib Bhimrao Ambedkar Ji laid the strong foundation of our democracy by giving us a Constitution that grants equal rights and opportunities to every class. He staunchly opposed Article 370 for the sake of the country’s integrity. Babasahib, who gave the mantra to society to become educated and stay organized, teaches us through his life that when the resolve is for national service and the welfare of the people, every obstacle becomes small. Salutations to the pioneer of social justice, the architect of the Constitution, Babasahib Bhimrao Ambedkar Ji, on his birth anniversary.”

Rajnath Singh also paid homage, underscoring Ambedkar’s lifelong commitment to equality and nation-building. “On the birth anniversary of Babasaheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Indian Constitution, a great social reformer, and a staunch advocate of social justice, we offer him our humble tribute! Babasaheb dedicated his entire life to fostering equality and harmony in society. His whole life was devoted to securing equal rights for the people of deprived sections. Babasaheb was also a great thinker and the architect of many of the nation’s institutions. Even in adverse circumstances, Babasaheb achieved extraordinary accomplishments and made an indelible contribution to nation-building,” Singh said.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday paid tribute to Dr BR Ambedkar on his birth anniversary, describing him as a visionary who gave India its “moral and Constitutional soul” and urging citizens to defend the values enshrined in the Constitution.

In a post on X, Kharge said, “On the birth anniversary of Babasaheb Dr B. R. Ambedkar, we bow with deep reverence to the visionary who gave India its moral and Constitutional soul. Babasaheb was not just the architect of the Constitution of India, but a relentless warrior for Liberty, Equality, Fraternity and Justice, values that define the very idea of India.”

Saying that with the Constitution being under a “conspiratorial attack”, there is all the more need to defend the principles he enshrined in India’s supreme founding document.

“Today, when the Constitution faces a conspiratorial attack, his words and warnings echo with renewed urgency. This is a moment that calls for courage and conviction. We must not merely remember him, we must rise to defend every principle he enshrined, to protect every right he secured, and to uphold every value he lived and fought for,” Kharge wrote.


In a separate post, Kharge also extended greetings on multiple regional festivals, including Baisakhi, Bohag Bihu, Puthandu, Poila Baisakh, Biju and Maha Bishuba Pana Sankranti. “Our warm wishes on the joyous occasions… These festivals bring with them renewed hope, optimism and the spirit of fresh beginnings. May these celebrations fill every home with joy, usher in prosperity, and strengthen the bonds of unity and amity among all,” he said.


Dr BR Ambedkar, popularly known as Babasaheb, was the chief architect of the Indian Constitution and a key figure in India’s social reform movement. Born into a Dalit Mahar family, he dedicated his life to securing equal rights for marginalised communities and promoting social justice.

Ambedkar served as independent India’s first Law and Justice Minister and was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1990 for his contributions to the nation.

He fought tirelessly for the equal rights of marginalised sections of society. Later, he was revered as a ‘Dalit Icon’ for his contributions towards their rights. He died on 6 December 1956. In 1990, Ambedkar was conferred with the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award. (ANI)
