DAVANAGERE: A pregnant woman, who was thought to have died in a bike accident, was killed by her husband who hit her on the head with a helmet near Nuggihalli Cross in Channagiri taluk on January 4.
The deceased has been identified as Yashoda, who was three months pregnant. The revelation came about during investigation.
Yashoda, a resident of Sarathi Hosur village in Channagiri taluk, fell in love with Tippesh (28) of Narganahalli village and they got married six months ago. On January 4, Yashoda visited her maternal home with her husband. But she was believed to have died while returning on a two-wheeler. Tippesh had informed her relatives that Yashoda had met with a bike accident and died.
Chandrappa, father of the deceased, suspected murder after seeing Yashoda’s body. He lodged a complaint that his daughter did not die in a bike accident, but was murdered. During questioning, Tippesh admitted that he had killed her by hitting her on the head with a helmet.
However, the provocation for the murder is not yet known. A case has been registered at the Channagiri police station and further investigation is under way.
