BENGALURU: Families living in the dark for over a week in Markandeya Layout cheered after power supply was restored following an exclusive ground report by Public TV.
The local engineer who had cut off the power supply and showed negligence has been taken to task by senior officials. The residents of the area thanked Public TV for its social concern.
A family in the locality was struggling to cope with the dark. An electric pole was removed and shifted to another place on Pillappanakkatte Road in Maruti Markandeya Layout in Dasarahalli Assembly constituency. As a result, people had been living without electricity for a week.
A private individual had approached a court stating that there was an electricity pole on his land. Following the court’s orders, Bescom officials had shifted the electricity pole. However, they failed to provide electricity connection to the houses for over a week, in an act of negligence. The residents of the area were facing difficulties due to the lack of electricity.
Earlier, the residents of the area would hesitate to venture out at night due to the attacks by some dangerous animals. However, with the streetlights now functioning, they are able to move around freely without any fear.
Public TV shed light on their problems and brought it to the attention of Bescom. Now, the residents of Pillappanakatte are happy that electricity connections have been restored.
Chandramma, a resident, said, “We had no power supply for a week and suffered a lot. We had gone to many departments to meet officials, but nothing happened. There is a postal delivery woman in the locality; students used to studying under electricity poles. There was fear of dangerous snakes. It was very difficult for children and elders to venture out. I would like to thank Public TV for helping us”.
Kanthamma, another resident, expressed gratitude to Public TV and said, “We suffered a lot throughout the week without electricity due to the negligence of Bescom. Finally, electricity connection was restored due to the efforts of Public TV”.
