The double decker flyover was inaugurated in July this year and already has potholes.

BENGALURU: It’s been just five months since the country’s second and South India’s first double decker flyover in Bengaluru was inaugurated for traffic, and potholes are already surfacing, which could potentially lead to accidents.

The double decker flyover connects Ragigudda to Central Silk Board junctions and was conceived to ease traffic in Banashankari, Jayanagar, JP Nagar, Silk Board, Marathalli and Electronics City. BTM Layout MLA and Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy had even hailed it as a model flyover.

Even as work on another section is still on, the asphalt has come off at places, causing potholes on the flyover which can be dangerous to vehicle users, especially two-wheeler riders. Minister Ramalinga Reddy said he will speak to the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) authorities and get the potholes fixed at the earliest.

“We are taxpayers and I travel every day from Jayanagar to HSR Layout. I have already experienced falling into the potholes twice. The rains have subsided and this is already the condition of the road. The authorities should take note and fix the potholes immediately as vehicles ply at high speed on this stretch and there is the danger of someone falling off the flyover”, said Pradeep Kumar, a regular commuter.

Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy told Public TV, “I didn’t notice the potholes on the flyover when I travelled recently. I will speak to the Metro MD to fix it as soon as possible. This is the only second double decker flyover in the country after Pune. We got the design when Pradeep Singh Kharola was Namma Metro MD and implemented the project. The flyover has greatly benefitted people and we will fix the small problems soon”.
