Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) needs to pay more attention on road safety.

BENGALURU: Bengalureans may have to muster a lot of courage to take their vehicles out on the unsafe roads, all thanks to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). Many lives have been lost and several people injured. Some are still being treated in hospitals after accidents due to the pathetic condition. All this while the authorities concerned remain apathetic to the condition of roads in the city which are riddled with potholes.

Though Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai himself had set a deadline for the civic body to complete pothole filling work, it has failed to meet the deadline with BBMP engineers citing the monsoon rains for the delay.

On Tuesday, a motorcycle rider, identified as Sandeep, met with an accident while trying to avoid a pothole near Gangammanagudi Circle. He sustained serious head injuries and some locals rushed him to a private hospital. Sandeep’s medical report says he has sustained brain injury and he is now in a state of coma. His situation is only worsening day by day and he is breathing with the help of a ventilator.

The city’s roads are riddled with potholes.

Seema, wife of Sandeep, told to media, “After Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai’s order, the Palike started working on filling potholes. If the BBMP had done this before my husband met with an accident, he could be normal like others. I meet him every day with a new expectations. I am not in a position to afford medical charges. My husband is now in this situation because of the BBMP’s negligence. He is breathing with the support of a ventilator. I need help from the government and from the BBMP as well”, she said.

Seema. wife of Sandeep requested the BBMP to speed up pothole filling work.

Even after the numerous road accidents, the BBMP does not seem to learn its lesson and shows little interest in ensuring road safety, citizens rue. They hope that it will speed up its work of filling potholes so that people can commute more safely on the city’s roads.
