BENGALURU: For the first time in Bengaluru, owing to public demand, postal services will be available in the evening hours at the sub-post office on Museum Road from Monday. The Sanje Anche Kacheri will function from 3 pm to 9 pm and is the second such office after Dharwad, which was started last and has seen overwhelming response.

Chief Post MasterAnil Kumar  said, “We have been receiving requests from the public to extend the timing or open an evening office. Owing to the demand, the Postal Department has decided to open an evening office in Bengaluru”.

At present, except the General Post Office and the Railway Mail Service post office, all other post offices in the city close at 3 pm and citizens were finding it difficult to avail postal services beyond the closing time time. By the time many people reach the post office with their parcels, most post offices are closed and customers cannot be served. Therefore, the department has decided to open the post office in the evening.

Chief Post Master Anil Kumar said they will deliver services according to the public demand.

“This will be the second such office in the state after the first one was launched in Dharwad in mid-November 2022. After getting good response, we planned to offer this service to Bengaluru as well. We will give services as per public demand. If we get good response, our circle office will consider opening post offices in other parts of the state too. We have thought of establishing evening  post offices in other parts of the city and other districts as well”, Anil Kumar added.

The services at the evening Post Office will be available till 9 pm every day.

“During normal work hours, we deal with all sort of services, but in the evening, we will restrict it to a few services such as speed post, booking articles and selling philately items”, he added.

The Postal Department is also planning to organise a 4-km heritage walk covering several historic structures in Bengaluru.
