MANDYA: Additional Director General of Police (law and order) Alok Kumar on Saturday revealed that he had sought a divine favour from Goddess Nimishamba for the arrest of wheeler-dealer and human trafficker K S Manjunath alias ‘Santro’ Ravi.

The senior police officer, who was at the Nimishamba temple at Ganjam near Srirangapatna on Saturday for thanksgiving, said, “For the last 12 years, I have immense faith in the goddess. In 2011, there was a double murder case in Mysuru involving two youths from Hunsur. In just five hours after I took a vow at this temple, the case was solved and, by the time I reached Mysuru, all the accused had been arrested.

“On January 10, when I came to Mysuru, I visited the temple and sought the goddess’ blessings so that the case is cracked. Within 22 hours, the accused was found, so I came to offer my prayers. The ‘Santro’ Ravi case was hurting the image of the police department and the government, so I had prayed that he should be caught soon and the misinformation should stop”, he added.

Regarding the arrest, Alok Kumar said the police are recording his statement. “We are inquiring about the case registered at the Vijayanagar police station and also about who had helped him ever since he fled on January 2. If anyone has actively helped him flee, we will act against them also. We will examine the other issues pertaining to him which are in the public domain and decide on further action.
