BENGALURU: Bengaluru’s markets have become hazardous and a matter of concern. Post-mortem reports of unidentified bodies found in Bengaluru reveal alarming facts. The reports indicate that these deaths were caused due to high levels of pollution in the city’s markets. Even traffic police are suffering with the health issues especially respiratory issues.

Now the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has decided to appoint officers to regulate unauthorised traders in all the markets in the city. Many markets, including KR Market, witness homeless people sleeping on the pavements, leading to deaths for unknown causes.

Post-mortem reports reveal that these deaths are caused by pollution, bad smell and lack of cleanliness. The main reason is the dumping of waste everywhere, leading to respiratory issues.

BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath said, “We have started an intensive cleaning drive from October 2, focusing on all markets. Unauthorised vendors are responsible for the excessive waste and pollution in markets. Registered vendors are not the issue, but unregistered ones dump waste and leave the place. To tackle this, BBMP will float tenders to appoint staff (manned bins) to maintain cleanliness and prevent pollution in Bengaluru’s markets”.
