RAICHUR: Rotten eggs and worm-infested wheat, groundnuts and millets are allegedly being provided to the children and pregnant women at the Thimmapurapet anganwadi centre in the city.
Locals have accused anganwadi teacher Channamma Ranna for distributing poor quality food items. Children are not fed on a regular basis, and food items are frequently out of date, they claimed.
“Food is not provided on a regular basis. Most of the time, the teacher will be on leave. Also, the food items provided to children and pregnant women are rotten. If we question her, there is no answer,” says Padma.
“I am pregnant. The anganwadi teacher distributes food grains without checking the quality. What will happen to our health if we eat such poor quality food? There is no nourishment in these foods. The food is not provided on a regular basis. If we ask her, she will ask us to come some other time. Most of the food items that we receive are of poor quality, “says Uma.
On Tuesday, locals gathered in front of the Anganwadi centre and protested against distribution of rotten chicken eggs. The anganwadi teacher who was present on the spot was also slapped by a pregnant woman for supplying poor quality food items.
