BENGALURU: After recent cases where policemen on night patrol were accused of extorting money from people, the police department has now planned to introduce bodycams for its personnel who are on night duty.

The police department has planned to make it mandatory for policemen to wear bodycams on night patrols after several people in the city alleged harassment by the police at night. In some of the cases, a few policemen have been suspended.

The police sources have revealed that they are experimenting with bodycams to keep an eye on the policemen who are on night patrols. Preparations have been made to try out the body cameras in some police stations in the South-East Division beginning in the first week of January. They have planned to give instructions to policemen on night patrol to use bodycams compulsorily to put a stop to accusations against the police.
