A massive protest was held in Dharwad on Tuesday.

DHARWAD: The police are set to file charges against job aspirants who protested in Dharwad, demanding employment opportunities. The protesters, affiliated with the Akhil Karnataka Vidyarthi Parishat (ABVP), had not obtained permission for the protest, but went ahead with it anyway.

The protest turned violent, with clashes between the protesters and police, resulting in minor injuries to several police personnel. The protesters were seen shouting slogans and engaging in vandalism, defying police warnings.

Despite being denied permission, the protesters took to the streets, prompting the police to issue a warning. Police Commissioner N Shashikumar had warned the protesters that they would face consequences if they continued with the protest.

The police have now decided to file charges against the protesters, citing violations of rules and regulations. The decision comes after reviewing video footage of the protest, which showed the protesters engaging in unruly behaviour.

The police had previously allowed a BJP protest to take place, but denied permission to the job aspirants, citing concerns about law and order. The move has sparked debate, with some questioning the differential treatment meted out to different groups.
