Police tighten security in view of drug peddling ahead of New Year as smugglers opt for trains

BENGALURU: Ahead of the New Year celebrations, ganja peddlers have become active in Bengaluru. The peddlers and smugglers are now using trains to bring ganja into the city to avoid police checkings.

The city police have set up checkpoints at various locations to curb the peddling of ganja and other narcotic substances. However, the peddlers have found a new way to evade the police by taking the Prashanti and Hatia Express trains.

Narcotics like ganja is being transported from areas like Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Odisha where cultivation is high. The peddlers are packing the ganja in trolley bags and hiding it among other luggage to avoid detection.

For the second time, the Railway Police seized ganja worth Rs 1 crore and arrested eight people in connection with the case. The police are investigating the matter further.

The ganja peddlers are targeting partygoers in Bengaluru, including those attending New Year’s Eve parties. The police are on high alert to prevent the supply of ganja and other drugs in the city.
