Police seize alleged dog meat boxes at Majestic railway station; Hindu activist Puneet Kerehalli collapses

BENGALURU: Several boxes of alleged dog meat and mutton stored in ice were seized by the police at Majestic railway station. The boxes were shifted to a cold storage facility in four vehicles under police protection.

Merchant Abdul Razak, accused of transporting dog meat, was on Friday night summoned for questioning by Health Department officials today. The Health Department officials have already sent the seized meat samples to a lab in Hyderabad.

An argument broke out between Hindu activist Puneeth Kerehalli and Abdul Razak on Friday night. Puneeth and other Hindu activists had protested near the Majestic railway station against the sale of alleged dog meat and mutton brought from Rajasthan to Bengaluru.

Later, Puneeth Kerehalli, who was arrested for obstructing administering duty and disturbing peace, collapsed due to stomach pain during police questioning. He has been admitted to Victoria Hospital and is undergoing treatment. A case was filed against him for obstructing police duty. He was arrested by Cottonpet police at 12:00 am.

During the arrest, Puneeth Kerehalli fell unconscious. At 4:45 am, he became critically ill and was admitted to K C General Hospital. Later, he was shifted to Victoria Hospital for further treatment.

Doctors who checked him said all his vital parameters are normal, but he remains unwell. The doctors at Victoria Hospital have continued treatment, stating that his health deteriorated due to not having food properly.

On Friday evening at 5:30 pm, 112 control room received a call, and Cottonpet police were instructed to investigate. The police team found alleged dog meat in ice boxes.

Puneeth Kerehalli and others had alleged that Abdul Razak was transporting dog meat, but no action was taken by the authorities. The protesters were detained and questioned, and an NCR (non-cognizable) report was filed against them.
