HASSAN SHIVAMOGGA: The police on Thursday night raided an illegal slaughter house on Bagur Road in Channarayapatna and seized about 10,000 kg of beef. However, the accused had escaped.
Based on specific information, the police raided the slaughter house, belonging to Mohammed Abdul Haq, and found more than 60 heads of cattle skinned and strung from hooks. The police, however, managed to rescue five heads of cattle.
During the raid, the police found that the cattle were being slaughtered and the blood was being let into a lake through a drain. The Channarayapatna police have registered a case and are on the lookout for Mohammed Abdul Haq.
In another incident, the police rescued 26 Sindhi calves which were being transported in a goods vehicle on Friday morning. The police intercepted the vehicle (KA-03 4E 4415) on Mysuru Road, but the driver abandoned it and fled. The vehicle was seized and the police were making efforts to send the rescued calves to a cow shelter.
At Shiralakoppa in Shikaripur taluk, Hindu Jagaran Vedike activists intercepted seven goods vehicles and rescued several heads of cattle and camels. The vehicles were carrying 18 buffaloes, 37 cows and calves and four camels. A case has been registered at the Shiralakoppa police station.
