BENGALURU: The city police have tightened security at the RSS office in Chamrajpet, in the city amid recent developments and potential tensions.
The security measures are likely in response to a likely meeting of the state RSS unit at the office on Monday following a letter from Minister Priyank Kharge asking the government not to provide space for RSS events.
Meanwhile, a campaign was launched on social media with the slogan, “I am an RSS Swayamsevak. Ban me if you can”, in response to the developments.
Following Priyank Kharge’s letter to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the state BJP has taken the Congress government’s move seriously and has constituted a core committee to study the implications of the proposed ban. The committee, comprising MLCs N Ravikumar and KS Naveen, will examine the pros and cons of the ban and submit a report to the party top brass.
The call for ban has sparked a political row, with the BJP accusing the Congress of trying to divert attention from governance issues. The RSS had recently celebrated its centenary year, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauding the organization’s efforts.
The BJP has decided to wait for further instructions from the high command before taking any action. If the government decides to impose a ban, the BJP plans to launch a massive protest, including legal action.
Priyank Kharge’s letter alleges that the RSS is spreading negative ideas and instigating hatred among people, particularly children and youth. He cited the Constitution’s provisions to curb such elements and uphold secular values.
