BENGALURU: The city police have invoked the Karnataka Control of Organised Crimes Act (KCOCA) against the accused in a rowdy’s murder. In the last two months, this is the second case registered under the KCOCA.
The police seem to be invoking the stringent KCOCA to control crimes in the city. After booking the accused in the murder of Kapil in D J Halli police station limits under KCOCA, the Parappa Agrahara police have now invoked the Act against 18 accused in the Siddapur Mahesh’s murder case including Wilson Garden Naga and Double Meter Mohan.
During the interrogation, the police also produced evidence about the links between the 18 accused. It is clear that there was a financial transactions among them. Hence, the Parappana Agrahara police have decided to invoke KCOCA against them.
The KCOCA is a law enacted in the year 2000 by Karnataka state in order to combat organised crime and terrorism. The first time the Act was invoked was against gangster Bannanje Raja in the year 2013. Once a case is filed under this Act, the accused cannot get bail for up to two years.
To invoke KCOCA, a crime must have been organised and should have involved financial transactions too. The accused must be involved in multiple crimes. The police can also invoke the Act if they have evidence that the accused may involve in fresh organised crimes.
