DAVANAGERE: The police on Sunday detained 11 people in connection with the stone pelting and vandalism of the Channagiri police station on Friday night.
The miscreants were identified by checking mobile videos and CCTV footage. The police have planned to arrest some of accused who were involved in mob attacks after the funeral of Adil who was alleged to have died in police custody. Sources said that more than 40 miscreants have already been identified, and ten of the prime accused have been taken into custody by the police.
On Friday night, people created a ruckus in front of the Channagiri police station. Adil, who was allegedly running a matka business in Tipu Nagar of Channagiri town, was detained by the police and interrogated. He, however, collapsed due to low blood pressure at the police station. The police immediately admitted him to the taluk hospital, but Adil died without responding to treatment.
After the death, angry members of Adil’s family staged a protest in front of the police station and expressed outrage at them. Later, when Adil’s family members were checking the CCTV footage inside the police station, a group of miscreants suddenly pelted stones at the police station. Vehicles, potted plants and windows in front of the station were vandalized. During the sudden stone pelting, 11 police personnel were injured and admitted to a hospital.
