DAVANAGERE: More than 1.5 years after a man was found dead, the Basavapatna police have cracked the case and arrested his wife and her paramour. The deceased was identified as Ilyas Ahmed.
In February 2023, an unidentified body was found washed away in the canal under Malebennur police limits. Suspecting it to be the missing Ilyas Ahmed, the police took DNA samples from his children and established his identity.
The Basavapatna police, who began investigating Ilyas’ death, found out that his wife Bibi Ayesha had an illicit relationship with Manjunath. Ayesha would drug Ahmed with sleeping pills and have physical relationship with Manjunath.
The duo decided to eliminate Ilyas Ahmed as he was in the way of their illicit relationship and accordingly, Manjunath took Ilyas to a dhaba near Sagarpet where he spiked Ilyas’ drink with sleeping pills. He then took Ilyas for a swim in a canal where he drowned him to death.
On September 24, Ilyas’ family members lodged a complaint expressing doubts about his death. The police investigation revealed that the duo had murdered him and arrested them. A case has been registered at the Basavapatna police station.
