BENGALURU: YouTuber Sameer M D appeared before the Belthangady police on Monday and answered several questions regarding the AI-generated video. Meanwhile, the masked man, Chinnaiah, also appeared before the SIT and responded to questions.
The SIT’s next steps will likely be determined based on Sameer statement to the police and the masked man’s statement to the SIT. If Chinnaiah mentions Sameer’s name, the SIT may take Sameer into custody in a separate case.
Sameer had provided some documents, including UDR records, panchayat records, and statements, to the police as evidence for creating the AI video. However, the police had asked for the AI video footage and Sameer claimed that those documents were sufficient proof.
After Chinnaiah’s identity was revealed, Sameer released an interview on his official page, claiming that the masked man’s story was false. The police, who are investigating Sameer in connection with the AI video case, have asked for more information and are adopting a “wait and watch” approach before deciding on taking him into custody.
The police are reportedly taking a cautious approach to avoid any allegations of sudden arrest, given that Sameer is currently out on anticipatory bail. They plan to continue interrogating him for the next 2-3 days and will decide on their next course of action based on his responses, sources said.
If Sameer’s answers are not satisfactory, the police may approach the court to seek his custody or request cancellation of his anticipatory bail. The police are reportedly looking for suitable grounds to make a strong case before approaching the court.
