Police constable threatens suicide over duty change, inspector hospitalised after drama

Constable Mudakappa Udagatti threatened to consume poison over change of duties.

BELAGAVI: Drama unfolded at the Udyambag police station here on Wednesday night when a police constable threatened to commit suicide over change of his duties after he came back from leave.

Constable Mudakappa Udagatti had availed leave for two days and when he returned to work, he found that his duties had been changed by the police inspector D K Patil. When he questioned it, he was asked to for the duty assigned to him.

Inspector DK Patil was rushed to hospital following drop in blood pressure after the drama.

Mudakappa then threatened to consume poison in the police inspector’s chamber itself and rolled on the floor. He was immediately shifted to hospital where doctors said he had not consumed any poisonous substance. He was then convinced by senior officers to report to duty.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Shekarappa visited the police station to collect information about the incident.

Following the drama, inspector D K Patil experienced a drop in blood pressure and was rushed to a private hospital near Yellur. Khade Bazaar Assistant Commissioner of Police Shekarappa rushed to Udyambag police station and got information from the staff and briefed Police Commissioner Iada Martin Marbaniang.

On November 28, 2024, constable Vittal Munihal of the same police station had written a four-page death note alleging harassment from the police inspector and had gone missing. The other staff of the police station quickly searched for him and saved him.
