BENGALURU: A police constable attached to the Govindapura police station was suspended after he shared a hotel room with a notorious thief who was arrested and also let the latter wear his uniform and click pictures.
East Division DCP Devaraj issued the suspension orders of police constable H R Sonar for dereliction of duty. An inquiry is also under way into whether the constable was only known to the thief or whether they have other links.
The police had arrested Saleem a.k.a Bombay Saleem and while bringing him to the city, the constable had shared a hotel room with the thief. Sonar also let Saleem wear his uniform and make a video call to his wife. Photos of Saleem wearing the police uniform were found on his phone after which an inquiry was launched.
