RAIGARH (Chhattisgarh): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wedneday took a dig at the Congress-led Bhupesh Baghel government in Chhattisgarh saying that the latter’s government has even indulged in cow dung scam.
“Imagine the mentality of a person who practices corruption in cow dung”, the Prime Minister questioned speaking at a public event in Raigarh. The BJP, which is in opposition in the state, has alleged a scam in cow dung procurement under the state’s Gaudhan Nyay Yojana.
Slamming the Congress government, the Prime Minister said, “The kind of scams the Congress practices, fills up the coffers of their leaders. Though they have fallen back in poverty alleviation, the Congress government is moving forward in corruption”.
“We wanted to stop liquor sales in Chhattisgarh, but the Congress started scam in liquor sale itself…The mineral wealth of Chhattisgarh is being used as Congress’ ATM. False propaganda and rampant corruption are the hallmarks of the Congress government in Chhattisgarh”, he added.

Prime Minister Modi said that had the Congress done its work sincerely, it would have been easy for him today. “If Congress had done its work properly, then Modi need not have worked hard today”, the Prime Minister said in another attack on the ruling party in the state.
In an attack on the Congress on its election “guarantees”, PM Modi said, “Fifty years ago, Congress has given the ‘Garibi Hatao’ slogan to eliminate poverty. Even today, they fight elections on this guarantee”.
Speaking on the progress of the state in eliminating Naxalism, PM Modi said, “There was a time when Chhattisgarh was known only for Naxal attacks and violence. After the efforts of the BJP government, today Chhattisgarh is being recognised because of the development work done here”.
Comparing its government at the Centre with that of the state, Modi said, “The BJP government in Delhi is leaving no stone unturned for the development of Chhattisgarh. The Congress government here is not engaged in development work, but only in empty talk and claims”.
Lauding the success of Chandrayaan 3 (India’s Moon mission), the Prime Minister said, “There is a festive atmosphere in the entire country these days. People are celebrating India’s accomplishments. India’s Chandrayaan reached that spot where no nation in the world could reach earlier. The world is saying India’s Chandrayaan is the best”.
The Prime Minister also congratulated the people for the successful G20 Summit in Delhi. “India organised a successful G20 Summit. This is the result of the hard work of 140 crore Indians…We were able to give a voice to small nations on the international stage. We have been able to accomplish this by staying close to our roots”, he said.
Speaking about the G20 dinner invite from the President, he said, “We prioritise small farmers. Our President invited G20 delegates to dinner and served them with kodo, kutki, ragi (coarse grain cereals)…those which we eat at our homes and grown by our small farmers.”
The Prime Minister noted that development is important in Chhattisgarh which is why it is important that a BJP government comes to power in the state. “It is important for Chhattisgarh to have good roads, railways and electricity. When the BJP government is in power in Delhi and Raipur, these benefits will reach the distant villages and the poorest”, he said.
PM Modi said that the central government has started a programme on sickle cell anaemia and is determined to eradicate the disease from the state.
Chhattisgarh will go to polls at the end of this year. The BJP aims to wrest power from the Congress-ruled state which is expected to set the tone for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha polls. (ANI)
