PM inaugurates KR Puram-Whitefield Metro line, interacts with employees during ride

BENGALURU: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the much-awaited 13.71 km KR Puram-Whitefield Namma Metro line. He even travelled on the Metro and interacted with Namma Metro employees and some school students.

The Prime Minister, who arrived by an IAF helicopter from Chikkaballapur, landed at the Satya Sai Ashram helipad near Whitefield and travelled a distance of 4 km up to Satya Sai Baba hospital on the Metro. As he arrived by road to the Metro station, he was greeted by thousands of people who had lined up on either side chanting ‘Modi, Modi’ slogans. Modi waved to the crowd from inside his vehicle.

The KR Puram-Whitefield line has a total of 12 stations including KR Puram, Mahadevapura, Garudachar Palya, Hoodi Junction, Sitharama Palya, Kundahalli, Nallurahalli, Sathya Sai Hospital, Pattandur Agrahara, Kadugodi, Channasandra and Whitefield.

A total of seven train sets will run on the route at intervals of 12 minutes and it is expected that 1.2 lakh people will travel on the new route daily one it is operational. The travel time will be 22 minutes and the new Metro line will help save time and will help reduce traffic in this section.

Built at a cost of around Rs 4,250 crores, the Metro Phase 2 extension line will provide clean, safe, rapid and comfortable travel to commuters in Bengaluru, enhancing the ease of mobility and reducing traffic congestion in the city.

Among the features include:

  • Arrangement made for entry and exit of BMTC buses.
  • Skywalk for the benefit of Metro commuters to cross the road
  • Flyover giving direct access to ITPB at Pattandur Agrahara station.
  • All necessary facilities created for Divyang.
  • 8 escalators, 4 elevators and 8 stairs have been made at all Metro stations for passenger convenience.
