HASSAN: A pet Pitbull died fighting a cobra while saving its owner and some farm hands at a coconut and arecanut plantation at Kattaya village in the taluk. The Pitbull attacking the cobra was captured on a mobile phone.
The plantation owner Shyamanth had reared the Pitbull along with a Doberman. The cobra was spotted when labourers were working in the farm and it was coming towards the house where children were playing.
The cobra slithered under a fallen coconut frond when the two dogs spotted the snake and attacked it. Both dogs bit the snake several times even as it struck back again and again. The Pitbull had suffered a snakebite in the face and eventually died.
Shyamanth’s family members, who expressed pain over the death of their beloved Pitbull, said the dog had participated in several dog shows and had won prizes.
