BENGALURU: With the problem of potholes on the roads finally decreasing, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has now started sewerage work. However, the BWSSB and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) work at odds, leaving the public to suffer due to one project or another. People are questioning whether these issues will ever cease.

Recently, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar set a deadline to fill potholes across the city, which was compelted. Now, incomplete sewerage works are threatening people’s lives. In Kadumalleshwara ward, a deep pit on a major road poses significant danger.

A massive pit, dug near 15th main road, remains uncovered for the last three months, with work still incomplete. This pit is extremely hazardous, putting two-wheeler riders and pedestrians at risk. Even BBMP and BWSSB officials are unsure when the work will be completed, despite being questioned. Residents have expressed outrage at the Palike and BWSSB, demanding action before it’s too late.

Local resident Raju expressed concern saying, “The open pit poses danger to the public, especially two-wheeler riders, who need to be extra cautious. No action has been taken for three months. I think it’s better to complete the work as soon as possible before some untoward happens.”

Another resident, Narasimhaiah, added, “The pit has been open for three months since BWSSB dug it up for sewage cleaning. There are no barricades or proper lighting at night, which will confuse new road users and it may cost lives”.

In another incident, woman lost control of her bike and fell into a pothole in Lingadheeranahalli, Bengaluru, around 11.45 am on Saturday morning. Her two-wheeler tyre got stuck in a huge pothole wich she was trying to avoid, but lost control and fell with vehicle. Luckily, she escaped with minor injuries.

Even though the deadline is past, many roads are still remain without asphalt work. This incident raises concerns about the city’s road conditions and the authorities’ inability to maintain them. Many roads remain without asphalt or concreate, posing risks to commuters.
