MYSURU: The district administration is planning to stop giving permission for construction of houses on sites procured under the 50:50 ratio scheme from the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) and an order to this effect is expected soon. This will include sites where construction has already been started.

The MUDA officials are already seeking legal opinion and the staff have been directed not to sanction building plans on such sites and to cancel the approval for plans where it has already been issued.

Shockingly, the MUDA authorities seem to have lost documents related to some sites allotted under the 50:50 ratio scheme, raising eyebrows. The officials have pleaded helplessness regarding the missing documents before elected representatives including Krishnaraja MLA T S Srivatsa.

The 50:50 ratio scheme had come under the scanner after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s wife B M Parvathi was allotted 14 sites in prime locations in lieu of 3.16 acres of land acquired in Kesare. Now, it has been revealed that one of the beneficiaries of the scheme, Abdul Wajid, had got 26 sites, while Syed Yusuf had got 21 and Mallappa was allotted 19 sites of 30×40 ft dimension.

Though land was acquired in 1962, Abdul Wajid submitted an application in December 2022 for compensation after 61 years and was allotted 25 sites in February 2023.

As per a government notification, the 50:50 ratio scheme does not apply to layouts which came up prior to 2009. Any such allotment will be deemed illegal. In several other cases, documents are missing at the MUDA office. Hence, BJP MLA T S Srivatsa has written to the authorities to cancel permission given for construction on all such sites.

Among others who were gifted residential sites by MUDA include S V Venkatappa (17 sites), Devamma (16), Mahadevu and Geetha (12), Sureshamma (11), Vyramudi (10) and Chowdaiah, seven sites.
