BENGALURU: The Peenya flyover will be closed to traffic for three days from 11 pm on January 16 to 11 am on January 19 for load testing. The police have requested motorists use the service road during that time. This will lead to heavy traffic on Tumkur Road next week, the traffic police anticipate.
The 15 metre-wide, 4.2 km long flyover starts at Peenya and ends at Nagasandra on Tumkur Road. In 2022, heavy vehicle movement was suspended after technical issues were found with the cables of two pillars of the flyover.
National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) project director Jayakumar said that the repair work has been completed. “We need to conduct load tests to assess the capacity of the pre-stressed cables. During the load test, eight trucks carrying 32 tons each will run on the flyover for more than 48 hours. We have examined only two spans between pillars 105–106 and 117–118”, he added.
The flyover not only connects Bengaluru to 23 districts but also creates a kind of economic link between Bengaluru and other districts of the state. The Peenya flyover consists of a total of 120 pillars.
