BENGALURU: Movement of heavy vehicles on the Peenya flyover has been restricted for a week, but motorists are finding it difficult to travel on it as it has not been properly maintained, despite collecting toll.
The flyover on the Nelamangala highway has potholes and witnesses accidents every day. The private company that has been managing the toll road has not maintained them properly. A few months ago, due to a technical issues, vehicles were restricted on the Peenya flyover for several months. Only later on, officials allowed movement of light vehicles.
Many plants can be seen growing on the flyover, and locals insist that if they are not cleaned up, it may eventually pose a danger to the structure. Even the drain pipes on the flyover need to be fixed and several motorists have raised concerns about the danger of pipes falling on them. In the night times, accidents, robberies and extortion cases have also increased on this road due to the lack of streetlights. Motorists and local residents have demanded better upkeep of the flyover.
“The Nelamnagala toll road has been riddled with potholes. There is no maintenance; plants are growing in the crevices and the rainwater pipes are also not maintained. Who will be held responsible if something untoward happens to riders? Moreover, there are no streetlights and work is not done properly despite collecting toll. Please take action against this”, said Charan, a road user.
“They collect toll close to Nelamanagala, but the road is full of potholes and is poorly maintained. There are no streetlights and no maintenance work has been done”, said Shashank, a student.
