Pedestrian falls off bridge after being hit by a car in Shivamogga, dies

SHIVAMOGGA: A pedestrian died after being hit by a Maruti Omni car during road blockade after senior BJP leader K S Eshwarappa announced that he will not be contesting the election. The man fell from the Tunga bridge after he was knocked down by the car on Tuesday evening and died.

The deceased has been identified as Divyaraj (35), a resident of Bhadravati who was working in a private company. He had identified himself with some Hindu outfits.

There was a traffic jam for more than a kilometre after Eshwarappa’s announcement. Divyaraj was on his way home at that time when he was hit by a car and fell from a height of more than 20 feet. Some locals rescued Divyaraj with the help of police, but had sustained serious injuries in the head and chest region.

Locals rushed him to McGann district hospital, but he died without responding to treatment.
