BENGALURU: Watch out, if electricity bill payment is not paid within 30 days after the bill is received and additional security deposit is not paid, KERC rules will apply and power connection will be disconnected. The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) posted a release on X stating that payment of pending power bills should be made by the stipulated date.

Bescom has decided to strictly implement this rule from September 1 for domestic and commercial users, apartments, and temporary power  connections. If the bill is not paid within the stipulated 30 days, the electricity connection will be cut off on the day of meter reading. Usually, Bescom staff  will visit between the 1st and 15th of every month. Therefore, Bescom has requested consumers to pay their bills on time.

Until now, linemen and meter readers would visit if the bill was not paid to cut off the electricity connection. From now onwards, linemen accompanying meter readers will cut off the electricity supply of consumers who have not paid their bills at the time of billing.

A 15-day grace period without interest is provided for bill payment until the due date (15 days from the bill date). After the due date, they should give with interest. If the bill is not paid, the electricity connection will be disconnected on the next meter reading day.

If the electricity bill amount and additional security deposit exceed Rs 100, the electricity connection will be cut off.

Special instruction to consumers: In case of online payment of electricity bills, sometimes the details may not be updated in the Bescom software, and the amount may still show as pending. In such cases, if the electricity connection is cut off, the consumer should show the bill receipt to the staff to prevent the disconnection. Therefore, Bescom has requested cooperation from consumers in this regard.
