CHITRADURGA: The government mother and child hospital in Hiriyur is in a deplorable state, with patients who are receiving treatment in fear of their lives. Despite the government allocating crores of rupees for the hospital’s development, the infrastructure is in a shambles.

A part of the ceiling collapsed in the maternity ward on Friday, injuring a woman, Abja Kausar, who had come to visit a patient. Miraculously, her infant and she escaped unharmed.

Chitradurga BJP MP Govind Karjol, who visited the hospital, criticised the state government and ministers, calling it a corrupt and inefficient administration. The Taluk Health Officer, however, stated that plans are under way to shift to a new hospital.

The hospital’s condition has sparked outrage, with demands for district in-charge minister D Sudhakar to intervene and expedite the shifting to a new hospital.
