MYSURU: In a case of honour killing, a man murdered his minor daughter who was in love in a boy from another caste, at Kalgundi village in Periyapatna taluk on Wednesday.
The father Suresh and mother Baby were angry that their daughter Shalini K S (17) had left home to marry Manjunath of the neighbouring Mellahalli village. The girl’s parents were also opposed to the relationship.
Despite the oppositing from her parents, Shalini was determined to marry Manjunath and had left home. Following this, a complaint was lodged with the police. However, Shalini refused to return to her parental home and was lodged in the Bala Mandir.
Recently, the parents brought the girl home after giving an undertaking at the Bala Mandir. They again tried to convince the daughter to give up the relationship, but she refused. Angered by this, the parents killed her with a machete and dumped the body in a field.
They then went to the Periyapatna police station and surrendered saying that they killed their daughter as she spoke disrespectfully to them.
