BENGALURU: A parents’ group has sought the government’s intervention in regulation of school fee, ahead of the state Assembly election, and has also threatened that they will not vote if steps are not taken in this direction.

After the Covid-19 pandemic, the economic recovery has been slow, but some private schools have increased the fees and are extorting money in lakhs. Due to this, the parents have demanded the government to curb the fee hike in private educational institutes. The parents’ organisation claimed that they will support that party which includes the fee regulation in its manifesto and they have appealed to five political parties in the state.

“We have been protesting for a fee regulation in private schools for the past two years. We have been taking up different campaigns on the issue and the government has agreed to too, but no one has implemented it. We have asked five different political parties to include the Fee Regulation Act in their manifestos. If they do not propose the Act, we will not vote in the Assembly polls. The School Fees Act has been implemented in many states. We have given a proposal to the Education Minister as well. We will write a letter to Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai in the coming days”, said Yoganand, president of the Parents’ Co-ordination Committee.
