CHIKKAMAGALUR: A part of a railway track suffered damage due to overflowing water near Kanive village early on Thursday following heavy rains in the district. However, the railway staff’s quick thinking and prompt action prevented a major accident.

The incident occurred when the railway track’s ballast stones were washed away due to the overflowing water from a nearby canal. When a passenger train from Chikkamagaluru to Shivamogga approached the spot, the staff informed the loco pilot, who immediately stopped the train.

The staff then carried out emergency repairs, and the train resumed its journey 45 minutes later. The incident occurred around 7.30 am on Thursday and the loco pilot’s timely action averted a potential disaster. The railway staff took precautions to ensure smooth train operations, and the area is being closely monitored.
