BENGALURU: A fire broke out in the parking space of Kodigehalli police station in the city on Sunday morning in which more than 50 two-wheelers which had been seized were gutted.

The parking lot was covered by thick dry grass. Police suspect that a fire broke out in waste that had been dumped in the yard near the police station which spread to the vehicles which were kept in ground belonging to the BBMP. Some other two-wheelers, seized over the last few months and kept elsewhere, however, remained safe.

Firefighters arrived on the scene and extinguished the fire. The vicinity of the police station was engulfed in thick smoke due to the fire.

The vehicles which were gutted were seized between 2002 and 2017 in various cases and were not in running condition. The Kodigehalli police had not disposed of the seized vehicles even after 20 years. It is alleged that the fire was caused due to the carelessness of the police department, but they have blamed Bescom for the fire.
