CHIKKODI: More than 50 people fell ill after consuming food at the Balumama temple fair at Kerur village in the taluk on Wednesday afternoon. All the affected were admitted to hospitals.
Soon after consuming food, many people started complaining of vomiting and diarrhoea. Thousands of people had brought food items to be distributed among the devotees.
About 200 people consumed food in the evening, which was left over in the afternoon. While 30 people were admitted to the government hospital in Chikkodi, ten people were treated at the anganwadi in at Kerur and 15 were treated at the government hospital in Yaksamba (Eksamba).
The affected include women and children and a team of doctors is now camping in the village.
