BENGALURU: The menace of stray dogs has increased in Bengaluru, with over 4,000 cases of dog attacks reported in the city in just the first two months of this year. The Bengaluru West and Rajarajeshwari Nagar (RR Nagar) zones have reported the highest number of dog attack cases.
In the past eight years, a total of 1,98,418 dog attack cases have been reported in the city, with 21,000 cases reported in 2023-24 alone. The statistics for the first two months of this year are alarming, with the following number of cases reported in each zone:
In January 2025, dog attack cases were reported as follows: 150 in Bommanahalli, 154 in Dasarahalli, 363 in East, 262 in Mahadevapura, 387 in RR Nagar, 256 in South, 889 in West, and 73 in Yelahanka.
In February 2025, the cases were 118 in Bommanahalli, 56 in Dasarahalli, 302 in East, 209 in Madhapur, 271 in RR Nagar, 212 in South, 666 in West, and 29 in Yelahanka. The total number of dog attack cases reported in the first two months of the year is 4,397.
Dog attack cases reported from 2017-18 is as follows: 36,672 cases were reported in 2017-18; 38,978 in 2018-19; 42,818 in 2019-20; 18,629 in 2020-21; 17,610 in 2021-22; 22,945 in 2022-23 and 21,163 in 2023-24.
