Over 140 take ill in Hosapete after consuming contaminated water

BALLARI: Over 140 people have taken ill after consuming contaminated water at Ranipet in Hosapete over the last few days. A drinking water pipeline has been damaged, leading to contamination.

On January 6, 40 residents of the locality were rushed to hospital after the complained of stomachache and vomiting. Ever since, more people have been falling sick with 25 people taking ill on Saturday, taking the total number to 154.

A couple of days ago, one woman, identified as Lakshmidevi, died after consuming contaminated water. Three others are undergoing treatment in hospital while the others were sent back home after being treated.

Meanwhile, five officials of the municipal council have been served show-cause notices. The health authorities have also set up a temporary camp in the locality to treat affected people and water is being supplied to the households by tankers.

Lokayukta SP Purushotham visited the affected people in hospital. Meanwhile, the residents have vented their ire against minister Anand Singh, who represents Hosapete in the Assembly.
