BENGALURU: A man allegedly attempted to rape a young woman in HSR Layout around 1 am on Sunday. The woman was admitted to a hospital after she sustained injuries and her condition is said to be stable. The HSR Layout police have registered a rape case and are investigating.

The incident comes close on the heels of the Kolkata trainee doctor’s rape and murder. Doctors across the country are protesting seeking justice for the victim.

The woman had gone to a party with her boyfriend on Saturday night. After the party, her friend’s car brushed an autorickshaw, leading to an argument between the drivers. At that time, a Hoysala squad also came to the place. The woman then took a lift on a two-wheeler but was later dropped off in a deserted area where she was allegedly raped.

When her friends arrived at the spot, they found her in a state of shock with her clothes torn. She was then covered with a car’s carpet and then taken to the hospital.

A 40-member police team has been formed to apprehend the accused. Senior police officers are also investigating the case.

Additional Police Commissioner Raman Gupta said that the incident occurred around 1 am on Sunday. “As per the preliminary information, the woman attended a party in Koramangala and was returning home. She then took a lift on a two-wheeler. The rider is the major suspect and we have already taken him into custody and questioning him. We are on theĀ  lookout for others. We can confirm rape only after the medical test “.

The woman had activated the SOS feature on her mobile phone, which alerted her friends and father, who rushed to the spot and rescued her. The accused had escaped. The police have formed five special teams to investigate and arrest the accused, said the police officer.

Later, Home Minister G Parameshwara, speaking about the incident, said, “The accused harassed her and made an attempt to rape her. Everything will be known after the police receive the medical test report”.
