BENGALURU: In a horrific accident, a car fell off the flyover at Yeshwantpur Circle after hitting a two-wheeler in the city around 3.45 am on Tuesday, leaving one person dead and four others injured.
There were four people in the car and the two-wheeler rider at the time of the accident. While Shabarish (26) died without responding to treatment, Shankar Ram (29), Anushree (23) and Mithun (28) and two-wheeler rider Manjunath (28) sustained serious injured. Of the injured, the condition of three is said to be critical.
The car was speeding from Sankey Road towards Tumakuru Road. It jumped the median, hit the two-wheeler and fell off the flyover. It is suspected that the occupants of the Tamil Nadu-registered car (TN 37 DH 9484) were inebriated as a liquor botttle was found in the car.
Deputy Commisioner of Police Sirigowri said, “Mithun Chakravarthy was driving the car at high speed. The deceased Shabarish was an IT professional. Anushree fell on the flyover before the car fell to the road and sustained injuries on the face and head and has been admitted to Manipal Hospital. Mithun’s condition is serious while the two-wheeler rider also sustained injuries. They had gone shopping at Orion Mall and later went out. The post-mortem report will reveal if they were drunk”.
The youths, hailing from Coimbatore, were working at Tenco Hire Purshasing and Leasing Pvt Ltd. Shabarish, along with his friend Mithun, had come to Bengaluru for a visa and had gone out with Shankar Ram and his sister Anushree, who live in Bengaluru. They were immediately shifted to a local hospital where Shabarish died without responding to treatment. The parents of the deceased and the injured have been informed and they are arriving in Bengaluru, police said.
The Yeshwantpur traffic police have registered a case and are investigating.
