CHAMARAJANAGAR: One person has been arrested in connection with the purification of a village water tank after a woman drank water from it. The incident had occurred at Heggotthara village in Chamarajanagar taluk a few days ago.
After the woman drank water from the village tank, it was emptied and ‘purified’ by some people of the village in an act of untouchability. A case was registered at the Chamarajanagar Rural police station.
The police on Monday night arrested Mahadevappa (62) and charged him under the Prevention of SC/ST Atrocities Act. Following this, Dalit organisations, which had threatened to stage protest from Tuesay, have called it off.
