Officials raided by Lokayukta officials in Bengaluru, other districts for disproportionate assets

BENGALURU: The Karnataka Lokayukta on Wednesday conducted state-wide raids on several government officials, including an IAS officer in Bengaluru in connection with disproportionate assets cases.

The Lokayukta conducted raids on the residences of three government officials in Bengaluru The officials whose houses were raided were IAS officer Vasanthi Amar, who is serving as the Special DC of Bengaluru Urban, Maruthi Bagli, Assistant Director of Town Planning, and Yeriappa Reddy, Executive Engineer of BBMP.

The raids were conducted on charges of accumulating disproportionate assets and corruption. Vasanthi Amar is accused of illegally transferring government land to others’ names.

Yeriappa Reddy was recently caught accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lakh. The Lokayukta team, led by SP Vamshi Krishna, is investigating the allegations and scrutinizing documents at the residences of the three officials. The officials are accused of amassing crores of rupees through corruption and irregularities in BBMP and BDA.

The raids were also conducted in several parts of the state, including Bidar, Kalaburagi, Tumakuru, Ramanagara and Mysuru.

Among the officials, the Lokayukta conducted raids on the residence and office of Sunil Kumar, an Executive Engineer in the Health and Family Welfare Department.

According to Lokayukta officials, raids were conducted at Sunil Kumar’s residence and office in Kalaburagi. Lokayukta officials are examining documents found during the searches.

Sunil Kumar is serving in the Engineering Department of Kalaburagi zilla panchayat. He is a resident of Hallikheda B village in Humnabad taluk of Bidar district.

As per the Lokayukta, gold ornaments, cash, watches and other articles were found in the residence of Maruthi Bagli, Assistant Director of Town and Country Planning, in Bidar. The raid was led by Lokayukta Deputy SP Hanumantharaya.

The Lokayukta team raided his residence in SBP Nagar, Jail Colony, Bidar, and is scrutinising documents. He is a native of Hallikhed B village in Humnabad taluk of Bidar district and is currently serving in Kalaburagi. The Lokayukta also raided his office and residence in Kalaburagi.

Lokayukta officials raided the KIADB office in Tumakuru and scrutinised the office files of AEE Rajesh. He had joined the KIADB office in Tumakuru just a month ago.

The Lokayukta raided two locations in Koppal and conducted searches at two houses belonging to Sheku Chauhan, one in Abhishek Layout and the other in Kirti Colony. Some documents were seized at the house in his native village of Kallukamba in Ballari.

Maruthi Bagli, who is the Town and Rural Planning Officer in Bengaluru, is originally a resident of Kallukamba in Ballari. Bagli is accused of acquiring illegal assets not only in Ballari, but also in various parts of the state.

The Lokayukta raided the home and office of Sheku Chauhan, the District Industrial and Commercial Tax Deputy Director in Koppal. He is accused of accumulating assets beyond his known sources of income. The officials uncovered Rs 52 lakh in cash, 1 kg of gold, 3 kg of silver, and documents related to 13 sites, 6.5 acres of land, and three houses.

In Mysuru, the Lokayukta raided the houses of two officials. Documents are being scrutinized at the residence of Venkataram, Deputy Divisional Officer in the Mysuru City Corporation, and Manjunathswamy, Joint Director in the Skill Development Department.

The Lokayukta raided the Ramanagara District Hospital, conducting a thorough examination of the administrative and accounts sections. The raid was led by Lokayukta DySP Shivaprasad and Rajesh, who scrutinized documents and gathered information from District Surgeon Dr Manjunath.

A team of over 10 officials was involved in the inspection, which was prompted by allegations of irregularities in the hospital’s accounts section.

Lokayukta SP Vamshi Krishna stated that the raids were conducted at 14 locations in Bengaluru, targeting three officials. The raids began at 6:20 am, and the team is scrutinising documents.

“We have recovered a significant number of documents, including records of land transactions and gold. We are separating the official documents from the others. By evening, we will have a clearer picture”, he added.

Raids were also conducted on the homes of KRIDE Special Deputy Commissioner, BBMP Executive Engineer, and other officials. The Lokayukta team is analyzing the seized documents to determine the extent of corruption and irregularities.
