BELAGAVI: In a heart-wrenching incident, an aged woman who was undergoing treatment in the ICU was forced to physically present herself at the sub-registrar office here to record her biometrics for some property issue.

Eighty-year-old Mahadevi Agasimani is battling life and death in the ICU at a hospital here. She was required to sign some papers and give her biometric information for division of her property and creation of other property papers.

Though the family members requested the officials at the sub-registrar office to visit the hospital, they allegedly demanded a bribe to take her fingerprint. Sub-registrar Padmanabh Gudi also allegedly refused to visit the hospital to take the woman’s signature/thumb impression.

Left with little choice, the family members wheeled Mahadevi into the sub-registrar office on Friday evening so that the officials at the sub-registrar office could take her biometrics and signature.

After a video of the incident went viral, many people criticised the officials for their inhuman attitude. The family members, however, refused to react.
