Congress leader Satish Jarkiholi had raised questions about how Sambhaji Maharaj got the title Dharmaveer.

BELAGAVI: Just days after he retracted his statement on the ‘Persian origin’ of the word Hindu, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee working president Satish Jarkiholi has landed in another controversy over his remarks on Dharmaveer Sambhaji Maharaj at the same event in Nippani held on November 6.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who tweeted a 42-second clip of Jarkiholi’s speech, questioned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi saying “Mr Rahul Gandhi, Do you agree with this non sensical, misleading insulting lie spewed out by your party’s MLA, about the great Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj ? Is this your Congress Party’s official statement ? Maharashtra will not tolerate this ! “(SIC).

In the video, Satish Jarkiholi raises questions on how Sambhaji Maharaj got the title Dharmaveer. “The British caught Sambhaji Maharaj and killed him. Why? When Shivaji Maharaj’s food was laced with poison, Sambhaji Maharaj had caught that person and punished him. Angered by this, Sambhaji Maharaj was handed over to the British. Later, he got the title of Dharmaveer, that’s another part of history. The country’s history is wierd. To understand it needs a lot of time and study”.

This has raised the hackles of the Maharashtra Deputy CM who has questioned whether Jarkiholi’s comments were the party’s official statement and warned that Maharashtra will not tolerate it.
