BENGALURU: After two previous opportunities, the state government has yet again extended the discounted traffic fine scheme for the benefit of motorists.
Those against whom e-challans have been generated for traffic violations can avail 50 per cent discount up to September 9, 2023, according to an official notification issued by the government on June 4.
The notification said the decision was taken based on the suggestion of the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority. The chairman of the KSLTA and the road safety commissioner had earlier held a meeting and made the recommendation to the government.
After the previous government announced the discount scheme, the traffic police had collected over Rs 100 crore in fines during the first round. Though there were demands for extending the scheme, the response was not as expected during the second extension of the scheme.
