KARWAR: Two days after a helicopter in which he was travelling suffered a bird hit, Congress state president D K Shivakumar on Thursday faced a another scare when the grass near the helipad caught fire when his chopper was landing at Ramathirtha near Honnavar.
The fire was caused by a smoke candle placed to mark the landing spot which was fanned by the chopper rotor blades. Shivakumar later headed to the Idagunji Ganapathi temple along with his aides and offered prayers before heading to Ranebennur.
Shivakumar arrived in Honnavar from Mysuru to address a party convention at the St Thomas hall. Addressing the gathering, he said there is a wind of change in the state and expressed confidence that the Congress will win more seats in the coastal region.
“The media and the BJP have not seen our manifesto properly, we have only mentioned about banning anti-national groups. I am Shiva, Shiva Kumara, I am a Hindu. Even Siddaramaiah follows Hindu practices. When S Bangarappa was CM, temples were developed under the Aradhana scheme. If we come to power, we will develop temples, including Anjaneya temples, in all villages. The manifesto should be understood properly”, he said.
